If there’s something that hurts more than the truth, it’s a lie that we believe is true.
How many times have I failed? How many times have things not gone the way I desired, the way I expected, the way I imagined so vividly that I was convinced they would happen as such?
Does the fact that I failed make me a loser?
Does the fact that I missed mean I suck?
Does the fact that I didn’t get the result I was expecting mean that it’s worthless for me to continue?
So many times, I answered these questions in the affirmative.
Yes, you are a loser.
Yes, you are worthless.
I was unknowingly digging myself deeper and deeper into a cavernous pit that would become my reality.
Believing those lies eats away at your most precious asset, your mind. It’s like a small speck of dust that finds its way into your engine; even the slightest speck, despute how small, can cause a catastrophic failure and destroy the delicate mechanism.
Our minds are full of these contaminants. They’ve snuck in during moments of failure, when you felt horrible, in conversations with loved ones, when you were vulnerable, and in the very thoughts your own mind produced when you were at your lowest.
Despite having all of these contaminants in your system, you are able to live and breathe and go day by day.
You look around you at people who seem to have things figured out and you ask yourself:
Can I become a better, more successful, more happy person?
Can I find a way out of this cavernous situation?
Can I ever get to be as happy or as successful as those people I admire are?
I again answer these questions in the affirmative.
Yes, you can be happier.
Yes, there is a way out.
God gives us the power, through his son Jesus Christ, to recognize that the whole war has already been won. He made the ultimate sacrifice so that we could live in peace and would not worry about a thing because we could trust in His purpose in our lives.
We are fighting a battle that has already ended against an enemy that has already been defeated. It’s up to us to accept that outcome and live the lives that He has promised us.
We will know the truth, and the truth will set us free. Praise be given to the most high.
